REVIEW: The storyline for Hostile Waters was done by Warren Ellis, a British comic book writer. I myself haven't heard of him before this game, but there's got to be something good about him because the storyline is fantastic. A world that has given up war must relearn it for World peace. The World is at peace, but there are some people who are bent on bringing back war, and this is were you come in. The only warship on the planet has to be started up again and you take the helm to fight off the Cabal (the guys who want war). It starts off as a standard two side battle for supremacy, but the story evolves into something much more sinister - but I don't want to ruin it for you.
As the captain of the ship so to speak you have a good arsenal at your disposal, ranging from utility vehicles, to tanks, planes, a buggy and more. When you build your units, you can add special augmentations like shields, cloaking devices and whatever you pick up along the way.
During missions you get the choice of controlling everything from the safety of your ship - Antaeus - in true rts fashion, or you can go straight into battle by controlling any of the vehicles on the battlefield.
The graphics and physics of this game are some of the best in the rts genre, lens flare, explosions, they're all here. In fact, the explosions are so good that at times you'll be happy to see you units get blown away. When thing explode, pieces go flying everywhere and if you are too close you could take some damage.
For me, the only real problems with this game is that it will take some time to get the best units, and there is no multiplayer which I fell would suit this game quite well. Also, I suppose that if your system isn't up to scratch, then you won't really get the full experience because this is one good looking game.
